“Yet over four books and thousands of pages, Edward’s character, as seen through Bella’s eyes, does not evolve beyond his looks and sexy vampire superpowers. He rarely has a thought that doesn’t involve fawning over her. I can’t remember him making her laugh. Bella, meanwhile, is less concerned about whether her boyfriend will kill a member of her family than whether he’ll dump her on her 18th birthday because she’ll be too old.”

Twilight | New Moon | Kristen Stewart | Robert Pattinson

I really miss the appeal of Twilight, especially with the women over 30 set. I gave up reading the books since Bella’s an idiot, I figure in the movies at least there’s general eye-candy and hopefully not all of it is jailbait.

“I copy, you copy, everybody copies. Pretending we don’t copy is just hypocrisy,” says Doctorow, whose own early attempts at sci-fi were pastiches of Conan the Barbarian stories and Star Wars fan fiction. “It’s the 21st century: Art will be copied. If you’re making art not to be copied, you’re not making contemporary art. It’s lovely that someone wants to be the blacksmith at Pioneer Village, but that’s not my job. I’ma science-fiction writer.”

    Copy fight -Cory Doctorow

I don’t completely disagree or agree with Doctorow, but not everyone is making art. Some people just want to eat and his model doesn’t do much to accommodate that.

“Mrs Colle is the first woman with the courage to stand up to a major fashion house and say ‘This work is mine’,” he said.

A verdict is expected on December 11. France’s fashion giants fear a decision against Chanel would open the door to similar actions by other “petites mains”, sparking an industry-wide revolution.

Mr Créhange told the court: “Chanel argues it created the jacket, but so far as I know Chanel doesn’t do knitting.”

“The Internet has been incredibly empowering to creators, and just as destructive to middle men… those middle men have become a luxury, not a necessity. Meanwhile, the software industry is moving in the opposite direction…. In the new world of mobile apps, a layer of bureacrats stand in the middle, forcing each developer to queue up for a series of patdowns and metal detectors and strip searches before they can reach their customers.”
Joe Hewitt from his blog post On Middle Men, a really interesting take on the present and future of software.

The Shoes at Alexander McQueen Were Only Ten Inches High — The Cut
I admit I love these shoes. I’d even consider wearing them.

    365:305 Happy Halloween!:

I got lazy this year with the costume. Apparently a lot of people did. The rain seemed to keep a lot of the kids away.
